The Dread Pirate's Summer Beach Bash Writing Contest is an annual event that is hosted by the Dread Pirate, DPebooks.com and the following sponsors:

CONTEST OVERVIEW:
Every year, Dread Pirate & DPebooks.com presents a creative challenge for
fun and prizes. You'll submit a short story of 1000 words (+/-). You can be
funny, poignant, witty, etc.; it is, after all, your sea-story! Winner(s)
will receive priceless prize packages and priority placement in the Dread
Pirate's Summer Beach Bash ebook. All entrants will receive publication
in an upcoming issue of the Dread Pirate's Summer Beach Bash ebook. The ebook's
will be available for free at DPebooks.com and DreadPirate.info.
Judging criteria are:
Inventiveness
Creativity
Humor
SOME RULES:
One entry per person per year.
Dread Pirate ebooks (DPe) retains first-time rights to run the winners (and
entrants) in the contest ebook and/or on our website, after which all rights
return to the author.
DPe judges will select the top entries and place them in winning order in
the front of the Summer Beach Bash ebook.
The decisions of its judges are final.
Deadline for this years Summer Beach Bash writing contest is 30 June; The winners will be announced on or about 4 July.
No entry fee is required,
and all rights in the story remain the property of the author.
All types of fiction, science fiction and fantasy are welcome.
All entries must be original works, in English. Plagiarism, which includes
the use of third-party poetry, song lyrics, characters or another person's
universe, without written permission will result in disqualification.
Excessive violence or sex, determined by the judges, will result in disqualification. Entries may not have been previously published in professional media.
To be eligible, entries
must be works of prose. We regret we cannot consider poetry.
The Contest is open only to those who have not had professionally published
a novel or short novel, or more than one novelette, or more than three short
stories, in any medium. Professional publication is deemed to be payment,
and at least 5,000 copies, or 5,000 hits.

1. Write your short story in your favorite word processing software.
1a. Entries must be written in English and no longer than 1000 +/- words (foreign-language
entries are ineligible and will be planked!)
2. Make the very first page [page 1] of your story the cover sheet.
2a. Copy and paste the following block of text into the first page cover sheet [page 1] and insert proper information [make sure to delete the >>>brackets]:
Story Title: [Insert story title here!]
Authors Real Name: [Insert your real name here. All submissions must have the authors real name here.]
Author's pen name: [Insert your pen name here. Only this name will be used if you provide one in the short story contest ebook.]
Postal Address:[Insert your full postal address here so I can ship you your prize!]
E-mail address: [Insert your e-mail address here.]
Website URL: [URL of your website/blog/facebook if applicable.]
Word Count: [Approximate word count of your short story here!]
3. After adding the cover sheet; click "Edit" in the menu bar and click on "Select all."
3a. Convert all font to Arial Font, size 12.
4. Save the document as an .rtf file. Click on "File" on the menu bar and click on "Save as..."
4a. Entries must be submitted in Rich Text Format (.rft) format only. All other formats will be disqualified.
5. E-mail your short story to Dread Pirate c/o DPebooks as an attachment.
5a. Subject Line should read: Halloween Short Story Contest Entry.
6. Send your email for consideration via email. {Click send now!}
7. Smile and have a great day!!!
SUBMITTING YOUR STORY:
The Dread Pirate's Summer Beach Bash Writing Contest occurs once a year. The
year will end on July 4. To be eligible for judging in this year, an entry
must be postmarked / email date stamped no later than midnight on the last
day of June.
Each entrant may submit only one manuscript per year. Winners are encouraged
to submit works the next year!
All entries for each year are final. No revisions are accepted.
Entries will be judged by quasi-professional authors.
The decisions of the judges are entirely their own, and are final, maybe...

In accordance with DPe's strict Privacy Policy, each entrant agrees that DPe
may share his/her entry information including name, website url, email address,
when publishing the Summer Beach Bash ebook ONLY. (So fans can see additional
work and contact you!) DPe and will not share your information, other than
the aforementioned, with promotional partners and other parties. If you would
prefer not to have your website URL or email published in the Summer Beach
Bash ebook, make sure to annotate this clearly on the cover sheet of your
entry!
